Prominent Masaka trader Bosco Ssennyonjo, popularly known as Bosco Bitanda, along with two of his children were killed Monday morning in a fatal crash on the Entebbe Expressway.
According to the Traffic and Road Safety spokesperson, Michael Kananura, the crash occurred at approximately 6:30am on March 16, 2026, at Mpala Interchange along the Entebbe Expressway.
The accident involved a Toyota Land Cruiser, registration number UBG 734S, driven by Ssennyonjo, who was traveling with family members toward Entebbe.
Preliminary reports indicate the driver lost control of the vehicle due to speeding. The vehicle first struck the base of a streetlight pole, then collided with a road pillar and overturned multiple times, leading to the fatalities.
Three occupants of the vehicle, including Ssennyonjo and two of his children, died on the spot. Their identities have not yet been publicly released.
Two other occupants sustained serious injuries.
Traffic Police evacuated the injured to Grade B Hospital for first aid before referring them to a facility for specialized medical care.
Police have launched investigations into the circumstances of the crash, including whether reckless driving or other factors contributed to the tragedy.
The deaths have sent shockwaves through Masaka, where Ssennyonjo was a well-known businessman. Many residents have expressed condolences to the bereaved family and called for heightened road safety awareness on major highways.
In a statement, the Directorate of Traffic and Road Safety extended sympathy to the victims’ families.
“We extend our heartfelt condolences to the families and relatives of the deceased who lost their lives in this crash. Our thoughts are with them during this difficult time and we wish a quick recovery to the injured,” said Kananura.
Authorities have urged motorists to exercise caution, strictly observe speed limits, remain alert while driving, and maintain full control of their vehicles to prevent similar tragedies.
